The King of fruits

I like durian. And like any true blue Malaysian, I know the best way durian should be eaten is straight away from its thorny husk. Although some mongers sell durian in tupperware or styrofoam packet (for conveniency, I guess), yet the original thorny husks still winning the crowd. It is as if the custard-like morsel taste different if it is eaten other than from its husk. It is as if you eat unoriginal durian! During my study years, I have known some of my friends imported durian from their Kg whenever there were durian season. Their parents will send durians packed in boxes. To avoid any accidents, the husks were 'cleaned' from its thorns.so the durians looked like a young coconut when the outer layer of its skin was discarded. Why didn't their parents just open the durian and fill the morsel into a tupperware to be exported to their beloved daughter? It was not that the morsel will go 'basi' because it can stand a good one day or two if it is left untouched. The answer is simple, there will be no joy eating durian without its husk.. so we huddled around a cluster of lame durians and split the thorny-not-there husk, then wolfing down its morsels. Because of its addictive effect (you eat one, and you crave for more), we just invited a few colleagues to that parties (bukan ape, kesian kalo tak cukup)...
Now, since those days are over, we buy lots and lots of durians and invite as many colleagues as we can to the durian-eating parties. Really, it is fun eating durian en masse.
While eating durian is may be a looking forward fiesta, dealing with the after- effects is another story.
For that reason I'd be wary when confined in enclosed spaces with someone who has taken too much durians. He or she might just release a 'sendawa' that you have to hold your breath till you turn blue. Serious! Even the one who releases the sendawa him/herself can't stand its bau! ...hmphf......!
For some people, the smell of durian is a no-no. They will go haywire and have the symptoms of acute headache. I remember a slot in astro 703 chanel (Bizarre Food)where Andrew Zimmern was forced to eat durian, hahaha...
